As someone already said before you should do the guided tour if you have the Salzburg Card. The guide is very knowledgeable and you can sense that he is really into it. The history of the place is long, very interesting and needs to be understood for understanding Salzburg.The festival itself is extremely expensive, but there is a reason for that. You get what you pay for. The scene, the singers, the Orchestra, the whole setup and every little detail is perfection. If you can easily afford the ticket I would say its worth it.

It’s a matter of choice, I fount this place just okay. Need to be careful while selecting a guide else your whole trip will be ruined. Extremely expensive festival. If you love orchestra then visit this place. There are so many other things to do in Salzburg, I personally enjoyed the mesmerising view of mountains, delicious food.

Fantastic place - huge outdoor venue, thousands of people young and old enjoying the lovely summer evening watching Aida on a large screen (free admission!) , and eating and drinking outdoors, after choosing a meal from one of many countries - like an endless supply of food trucks. Made me want to move to Vienna!

Excellent place for concerts... Attended mozarteumorchester and it was excellent... Book tickets in advance or buy at the place on the day of the concert if available...

The most amazing performance of the Leningrad symphony I've ever heard. Incredible!

If you’re going for the tour try to avoid the one with Clemens. Very rude and seems to hate doing the tour. Terrible experience.

Tour ruined by the rude, bad attitude of the guide Clemens who unnecessarily had an over the top angry outburst because some of our group dared to go to the bathroom at the end of the tour. Completely uncalled for. Not worth the money, and not how to welcome visitors to your city.

There is certain mystique surrounding the Festspielhaus. Just like paying Homage to Wagner by getting to Bayreuth, one needs to get to Salzburg to channel one's own DNA linkage with Mozart, Herbert Von Karrian, & the other Greats if that's part of your earthly journey. Granted, the mandane, the pedestrian, the unexpected trauma, the stresses & tensions ,misunderstandings caused by loss in trasslations, etc.. are inevitable even amids the dreamlike EURO cloud. Just be prepped for the slights/unpleasant momemts - let it go & take the high road in order to be opened & capture some unexpected exquisite, sublime, transcandantal moments. You never be the same again. Just remmeber:" These Too Shall Pass!". Relax and enjoy.

Must be seen, especially New Year concerts

Go for their guided tour which is covered by the SalzburgCard. I had the opportunity to be led by a highly knowledgeable guide who knew just about everything we threw at him. Also helped by the fact that the group was enthusiastic so the banter grew into something lively and highly engaging.
